Whiskey

Whiskey is distilled from fermented grain mash, from grains including barley, corn, rye and wheat, and aged in wooden casks for many years to allow the flavours to develop and enrich. Whiskey has a high alcohol content and is usually amber in colour. Whiskey enthusiasts usually enjoy their whiskey neat, but some add water to further open up the flavours in their drink. We recommend sipping your whiskey to really make the most of the flavour notes, as shooting it will not do it justice. You can also add whiskey to your coffee or mix it into a cocktail, but the whiskey purists among us will always believe it’s best enjoyed on its own.

Our Irish whiskies reflect the unique nature of our rich heritage and we work with many local producers including Clonakilty, with its fabulous range of delicious flavours, and the Cooley distillery, where Connemara is a popular choice. If you’re looking for something special, we can recommend the Grianstad an Tsamhraidh Single Pot Still from Dingle Distillery, part of the Celtic Wheel of the Year series that is inspired by the summer solstice. A limited edition whiskey matured in first filled bourbon casks and finished in American Rye casks, there are only 9,000 bottles available worldwide.

Our extensive range of whiskeys includes classics such as Ardbeg and their distinctive choices that are renowned around the world for their excellence. Ardbeg has been made on the remote Scottish island of Islay for more than two hundred years and the flavours reflect the beautiful landscape with its soft water and fertile soil. We love An Oa, added to the Ardbeg range in 2017, with its toffee, aniseed, date and banana notes and rounded, smoky flavour.
