Description
Clean and bright in appearance. A beautiful intense cherry colour. On the nose, this wine boasts hints of black and red fruit, particularly blackberries and raspberries. Alongside balsamic notes, Pesquera Crianza combines to offer a complex, serious wine.
Fresh on the palate with a silky and very sweet mid palate. Perfectly integrated. Black fruit such as blackberry on the finish. The oak is there yet beautifully integrated with those notes of toast and vanilla, typical of 14 months in American oak barrels.
Try this wine with a slow roasted leg of lamb or cheese of the region. Paired with game birds and Jamón ibérico it is simply a joy.
Numerous awards endorse these wines, attained throughout 40 years of winemaking. It was a dream come true for the late Alejandro Fernández, whose maxim was always to own a bodega and make fine wines. Today it could be said that reality has surpassed the dream and that Alejandro, his bodegas and his wines have earned worldwide recognition and appreciation.
Founded in 1972. An icon of Spanish wine and widely regarded as the Master of the Tempranillo, Alejandro Fernández achieved naturally concentrated elegant wines which are expressive in youth yet benefit greatly from age. Currently under vine in Pesquera are 500 acres of Tempranillo. Soil types include deep gravel which are quite rare in the region and are essential to the singularly complex Pesquera bouquet.
“Developing nose, showing aromas of figs, dates, toffee, cocoa and pencil shavings. Chocolatey and unctuous on the palate. Classic style.”
90 points (Decanter World Wine Awards 2025)
“A full and layered red with a deep core of dark fruit and hints of ground cloves, hazelnuts and sandalwood. Structured and firm, with chewy tannins. It’s rich but balanced, showing persistence and focus. Lingering finish. Better after 2025.”
93 points. James Suckling, jamessuckling.com (June 2024)
